B I G  N E W S!
Our first CD

- Overserved -

was released on
March 17, 2005

"Compared to B.C.-based folk groups ...Three Row Barley is closer to trad Celtic music... Perhaps this is because the group emphasizes vocals over instrumental virtuosity; There is a sense of purity here..."
- Tom Harrison
(The Province, Vancouver, BC, Apr. 26, 2005)

Arrrr, here be Pirates...

"Barrett's Privateers" live at The Atlantic Trap And Gill

Here is a clip from the album track, recorded live at The Trap in Feb. 2005, with Bruce (now retired) on lead vocals. Roger now sings this song, and it really cooks. We have to fend off requests for this number from the moment we start tuning up. This cut from Overserved gives the best idea of the energy and crowd reaction we generate when we hit the stage. Many thanks to Ariel Rogers for permission to release this Canadian classic.

"Saturday On The Strand (Teaser)"

We've recorded what's called a 'Teaser', which is a short bit of music that is representative of the longer pieces we do. This one is a very small part of our 'Saturday On The Strand Medley'.

The full medley starts out with 'I'se The B'ye' (an East Coast classic), then bounces into one of Roger's originals, Saturday On The Strand, followed by some fiddlin' on Irish Washerwoman, Swallowtail Reel , then back into Irish Washerwoman for the end.

Whew! It was work just typing it. It's a big chunk of work to play it, but it is often our final song, and we are always ready to go for more. The energy of this medley played live is amazing. (We actually got in trouble at one venue because of the people on the tables.)

The lyrics to "Saturday On The Strand" are a bit of a who's who of our friends in the Vancouver celtic scene. It's always fun to see people notice themselves in the song.
